If you’re planning a trip to Southern Maine, don’t overlook the Kennebunks — quaint coastal towns in Southern Maine.
My sister and I wanted to visit New England to see the Fall foliage and came across a charming Inn called the Waldo Emerson Inn, an inviting and charming 268 year-old property. There are so many things to love about this Inn, and it is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for a cozy, bed-and-breakfast kind of stay.
It’s tucked away in the town of Kennebunk, Maine which is so peaceful since it’s surrounded by nature and only a short drive away from Kennebunkport and fishermen’s towns like Cape Porpoise or the stunning Gooch’s Beach.
The room we stayed in at the Inn is called Ralph’s Library which had beautiful views of the foliage, lovely decor and a cozy fireplace. This room is rumored to be where Ralph Waldo Emerson slept while visiting his great uncle in the summer months to focus on his writing. There are five other lovely rooms to choose from, each a serene oasis.
We were greeted by Hana the Inn keeper the day we arrived who welcomed us with a fresh batch of homemade sea salt chocolate chip cookies along with the cutest Yorkie named Sloan that lives on property. We settled in, immediately felt right at home and toured the beautiful Inn.
A few of my favorite things about this property are it’s beautiful, thoughtful decor, the 2-course complimentary breakfast made fresh every morning by a London-trained chef and the serene surroundings to name a few.
Plus, I love that it’s a dog-friendly place, and the only dog-friendly historic Inn in Southern Maine. Waldo Emerson Inn would also make for a wonderful romantic retreat, where you can celebrate your anniversary, birthday, engagement, etc.
Each morning, we were treated to a delicious, fresh breakfast made from scratch and a hot cup of coffee! The Inn Keeper was such a gracious host. She made sure our cups of coffee were never empty and was able to accommodate to my gluten free diet, which was wonderful!
The menu changes daily but our favorite was the fresh yogurt parfait with roasted grapes and granola along with a DELICIOUS breakfast sandwich made with the chef’s special sauce. I wish I had this sauce at home to put in my sandwiches because oh my gosh it is so good!
I could go on and on about why this place is a must-stay…I truly can’t wait to go back! If you’re looking for a peaceful respite and cozy stay, I could not recommend Waldo Emerson Inn more.
Thank you Waldo Emerson Inn for hosting us. All opinions are my own.
