I think it’s safe to say we could all use some extra self care these days. Now more than ever, self care has become such an important part of my daily routine.
Taking the time to fill your cup in big or small ways each day can really help boost your mood, set the tone for your day, and feel inspired. Specifically starting and ending the day with some form of self care has made a big difference in my life.
For a while, I was feeling unmotivated and uninspired. I found myself mindlessly scrolling on social media (especially before bed) and dreading my work outs, which I usually look forward to. Plus, with everything going on in the world, I just felt overwhelmed.
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to make the conscious effort to incorporate more positive routines and self care practices to help me feel better! So far, it’s going great and I wanted to share some self care ideas if you’re in need of some inspiration too. Even just one of these can make such a BIG difference. It’s true what they say: it’s so important to take care of your mental health and listen to your body.
Read on for five simple self care ideas to help you feel more positive, inspired and motivated.
5 Simple Self Care Ideas
Start your day with a cup of your favorite drink
If you’re a coffee, tea or lemon water drinker in the morning, this sounds so simple but starting your day with a drink you look forward to is key. What makes this a special routine is to take your time preparing it and drinking it! For example, I’ve been experimenting with new coffee drinks and preparing fancy lattes as if it were from a coffee shop and it’s something I look forward to every morning. Sipping it out of a pretty mug or glass, using a nice straw, and really taking the time to enjoy it will honestly elevate the experience! It’s the little things, right?
Spend more time on skincare
Again, this might sound so simple but what makes this a nice self care experience is taking your time applying your skin care products. I’ve mentioned this before but it really makes a difference. Instead of quickly slathering on your facial moisturizer, take your time with it. Add a serum to your routine, use a jade roller, do a quick DIY facial massage, splurge on a nice skincare product you’ve been eyeing, etc. These little rituals add up and will truly help you feel amazing and give you a nice glow, which is a major plus!
Something worth mentioning, I absolutely love using these soft makeup towels from Weezie Towels, featured above, along with my skin care routine. I use them to wash my face mask off or dry my face after using my favorite facial cleanser. They’re so soft and fluffy which makes it such a treat!

Exercise to feel good
This is something that I’ve been challenging myself to do recently. For a while I was running and doing some high-intensity work outs, but for the past few months I didn’t find them enjoyable anymore and it was becoming a drag. So, I listened to my body and started doing low impact work outs like walking 5K-10K steps a day and pilates/yoga workouts, specifically Melissa Wood Health and I’ve been really loving it! Fitness doesn’t have to be a drag, and finding something that makes you feel good is what I’ve found to be most effective!
Journal
Journaling in the morning or before bed is a great way to start/end the day. I’m still working on being consistent with this but I try to write a gratitude list every morning and it really helps to put me in a good state of mind! Plus, who doesn’t like a pretty journal?
Read
If you want to take a break from screens, reading is a great form of self care. There’s nothing better than getting lost in a good book, don’t you think? I just started reading The Royal We and I’m liking it so far! Reading is a nice way to just take a break and let your mind wander.
