Sharing easy ways to make the switch to clean, natural makeup! Read on for my favorite brands and tried-and-true tips.
Over the last couple of years, I started becoming more and interested in clean, natural makeup. But I already had a full makeup collection of regular makeup products so I never really prioritized it.
Then, I started taking better care of my skin and getting regular facials and I decided to dabble into the world of natural makeup. Once I did, I had built a handful of go-to nontoxic makeup products but the rest of my regular makeup was just sitting there only being used once in a while. It took me a long time to make the full switch because I was kinda intimidated by it! Eventually, I got rid of anything that wasn’t “clean” and finally went all in.
If you’re new to clean beauty, I hope you’ll feel inspired to try out natural makeup for the first time or if you’re already a fan, I hope you’ll feel inspired to add some new products to your wishlist/makeup collection. Plus, I’m sharing my go-to products and favorite brands.
I’m here to tell you that making the switch can be simple and doesn’t have to be intimidating. Plus, your skin will thank you for it because once you learn the amount of chemicals that regular makeup has, you just might think twice about applying any of it!
How to Make the Switch to Natural Makeup
1. STEP ONE: The first thing to keep in mind when making the switch is to do some research. Find some trusted clean beauty bloggers (my favorite is Celeste from The True Spoon) to educate yourself on all things clean beauty and natural makeup. I’ve learned so many great tips and learned about great brands from her.
Next, find good clean-beauty retailers. Credo Beauty, BeautyCounter, Target and Sephora are all places that I have shopped at and recommend for clean beauty. Other good options are Follain and Dermstore. Plus, you’ll also find natural makeup on Amazon and at Whole Foods.
2. STEP TWO: Next, take a look at what you currently have in your makeup collection. What’s missing? What could you get rid of? I started by slowly purchasing a few nontoxic makeup products here and there to get familiar with them. I ultimately waited too long because I was still holding onto my regular makeup.
So, I suggest if you’re going to make the FULL switch, give yourself a deadline. I recommend either right away if your budget allows or within 1-3 months to slowly build up your clean beauty collection. Making the full switch is such a great feeling! One thing to note: with these kinds of makeup products, simplicity is key. So you’ll need far less products to get the job done!
3. STEP THREE: Once you’ve done your research and made the full switch, it’s time to play around with your makeup products. It might take some trial and error to find products that work best for you and that you love! A few of my favorite brands are RMS Beauty, Kosas, BeautyCounter. I hadn’t found a tinted moisturizer that I loved until recently. This one from BeautyCounter is my new favorite. It feels so light & like you aren’t wearing anything which I love.
If you’re looking for blush recommendations, this is the cream blush I have can also be used as lipstick, and this powder blush is a new favorite of mine that’s a flattering peachy tone. Also this lipstick and mascara are must-haves! Lastly, gentle makeup wipes, a gentle facial cleanser and a soft and fluffy makeup towel like this one from Weezie Towels, will make removing your makeup a breeze!
