Fall style doesn’t have to wait until temperatures cool down. Pull out your favorite fall pieces now and transition into the upcoming season with these easy tips.
As we make our way closer to the official start of fall, some of us might be craving cooler temperatures so we can start to pull out all of our favorite fall pieces.
Even though the weather may not be there just yet, there are still ways you can transition into fall with styles that work now and later! To help give you some additional inspiration, I’ve already shared a few glimpses of fall fashion this month. In case you missed it, visit this post for some late summer style inspiration and this post for some styles to look out for this fall.
Read on for some simple tips and style ideas to help you ease your way into fall seamlessly!
Easy Ways to Transition into Fall
Wear Styles in Rich Hues and/or Textures
Considering it’s still hot out, the best way to make your way into the new season is to begin incorporating richer hues and/ or textures into your wardrobe. Chances are, you like to keep your wardrobe lightweight and on the lighter side to stay cool during the warm months. Now, you can wear things like a red shirtdress, a corduroy dress, a black cotton jumpsuit or brown wide-leg pants. This way, you’re keeping cool yet you’re dressing for the season ahead!
Add Layers Later
When the temperature cools down enough, add your favorite layer like a classic trench, a quilted jacket, or a puffer vest to your look. Just keep it simple and easily make your outfit work whether it’s summer or fall. I also love the option of layering this cozy wrap scarf over any look!
Incorporate Accessories in Fall Hues
Another great way to be fall-ready even if it’s still warm out, is to add accessories in colors of the season. Think gold, brown, red, burgundy, camel, olive… there are endless options!
For example, swap out your neutral summer bag for a classic cognac leather purse, an olive handbag or a deep burgundy satchel. This way, you’re adding hints of fall regardless of the weather.
Throw on a lightweight scarf like this colorful one (it’s at the top of my wishlist) over any plain blouse or tee of your choice. It would look gorgeous styled with this top or this one and it instantly adds warmth and fun to your look. Pair it with a warmer lip shade and gold earrings and you’re set!
When in Doubt, Wear Leopard
To me leopard print is synonymous with fall… anyone else? It becomes a neutral that you can pretty much style with anything. See inspiration here.
This leopard headband would look gorgeous with a white button down, a black leather skirt and flats or heels. I’m also loving this leopard midi dress. I’ve never owned a full on solely leopard piece, but this one instantly caught my eye. It’s elevated without being “too much”… it’s just right and it would look amazing with heels, loafers or boots.
See? Fall fashion can definitely be pulled off no matter where you live or how the weather is. Just by adding hints, accents and styles, you can achieve that ultimate fall style.

Thank you for the tips Emily! I struggle with transitioning properly as I get overly excited and pull out all of my autumnal clothing in a hurry. We get such interesting weather here in Maryland and some times the temperature aren’t high but the humidity is raging. Not to mention the varying degrees of temperature (70-95) during the week. I’m sure this will help me make better choices. =)
