Today, I’m bringing you the first ever guest on my blog! Miss Brickellista herself will be sharing her take on mindfulness and essential mindfulness tips that you can incorporate into your life.
Hey everyone! I’m excited to bring a guest, Evelyn Torres of Brickellista Files to the blog today. It was so fun to get to interview Evelyn and ask her about her experience with mindfulness and have her share her top mindfulness tips with you!
To start off, what is mindfulness? Merriam Webster define mindfulness as…
“The practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.”
Why is mindfulness so important? Well, in this fast-paced world we live in that’s full of distractions, news and technology, it’s easy to forget about what’s really important. Mindfulness brings us back to the present moment and allows us to fully experience every moment and activity in our lives with purpose.
I usually talk about style tips, fashion and beauty on here but I think that it is so important to be present in our lives (it’s something that I am working on and let me tell you, it’s not easy) in order to feel our best. We can shop and wear our favorite pieces as often as we wish, but if we don’t FEEL good about our lives, then what’s the point?
Thankfully, Evelyn of Brickellista Files shares some of her insights and tried-and-true tips on mindfulness and I couldn’t be more excited to share them with you!
1. Can you share little bit about yourself and your blog Brickellista?
Brickellista started as my Twitter alias in August 2009 with the purpose of connecting with the hottest events and best restaurants. I was new to Miami & wanted a way to connect without putting myself “out there.” I’m actually an introvert if you can believe that?!
I left corporate America in 2017 to pursue my passion for blogging. In my prior career, I was a marketing ninja at a global firm. I went to business school and focused on expansion strategies into emerging economies – I’m kind of an economics geek!
The Brickellista name is Trademarked and in 2016 I licensed it to Florida East Coast Realty for the advertising campaign for Panorama, the tallest building outside of Manhattan! It was awesome to see my name on billboards, magazines and bus stations!
2. Why do you think it is so important to live with intention and incorporate mindfulness into your life?
Living each day with intention helps you become a better project manager in general. I’m lucky to have worked for some of the top global companies and worked alongside brilliant individuals. I always found that the most successful leaders incorporated mindfulness to their daily ritual.
Whether this meant waking up at 5am to hit the gym, meditate during the day, or read self empowerment books, the most successful leaders worked on themselves before leading others. Introspection is key. And this is important if you are leading a Fortune 100 company or running a small business. Mindfulness paves the path for success.
3. What inspired you to introduce more mindfulness into your blog?
My blog is where I share my adventures, products I am passionate about, and travels that inspire me. Mindfulness is an integral component of understanding your values and passions. Since the launch of my blog I knew I needed to serve a larger purpose and mindfulness was always top of mind. While I was in corporate America, there were days I wanted to strangle co-workers! I started doing yoga and it helped with those super stressful days in the office. Now I started incorporating meditation each day.
4. What are some mindfulness tips for busy women who want to incorporate more mindfulness and self care into their daily lives?
Read my blog and follow along on Instagram! Each week I send a newsletter packed with tips for mindfulness and success. I mentor women in corporate America and I always suggest to start with a Yoga class and eating more greens. Mindfulness shouldn’t be treated as an esoteric subject, it’s a great opportunity to connect with friends. My friends talk about it all of the time and we love suggesting new ideas to each other. Start slowly and add a new hobby each week / month.
5. How would you describe your journey with mindfulness and self care?
I’ve always loved self-care and mindfulness. I would say the book that really encouraged me to go on a deeper journey is “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero. This book empowered me to start a book club with my girlfriends and on the blog! I also had the incredible opportunity to introduce and interview Jen Sincero while she was giving a talk at Books & Books in Coral Gables. It was an honor because she’s a New York Times Best Selling
6. What are some of the biggest benefits you’ve experienced so far with approaching life more mindfully?
I would say it’s allowed me to approach life and people differently. I’m able to quickly see people who have toxic habits and make a decision on how I approach them. I think when you are more mindful it gives you a unique super power because you can literally feel people’s vibes. They always say your vibe attracts your tribe, and that’s probably the most literal benefit of mindfulness! I now surround myself with people that are goal oriented and have similar personal values.
7. Can you share some of your favorite products or activities that help you with mindfulness?
Download the Breathe app! It will change your world. Also Oprah has two great Podcasts that are both centered around mindfulness.
8. What does your morning and nighttime routine look like?
I have a great article about that here! I hope your readers will find it useful.
9. For someone who has never established either a morning or a nighttime routine, what would you suggest to start off with?
My biggest tip is what when starting any routine is to always set your intention or purpose: “I want to wake up early and journal 3 pages because I know this will open up my creative genius and allow me to be my best self each morning.” Without that purpose a snooze button will become more tempting!
