When it comes to skincare and beauty, finding the skincare products and routine that works best for you can be overwhelming. I’m sharing the best beauty advice that I’ve received in hopes that these tips can help you as well!
Beauty Advice
I used to think I had oily skin. My T-zone would become shiny by mid-day and I didn’t understand why. I’d wash my face in the morning and at night with a cleanser formulated for oily skin and I’d use a toner for oily skin, so I thought those products would get rid of all my excess oil. Well, I was wrong! In hopes of achieving clear skin, I started getting routine facials. My skin has improved tremendously ever since and I have to say, I owe it all to my esthetician Ana.
One of the best skincare tips I’ve received from Ana, is to wash your face with a cleanser only once a day. I know most of us are used to cleansing in the morning and night. Ana told me that there’s no reason to cleanse in the morning because overnight, your skin produces oil with necessary nutrients to help repair the skin. Harsh cleansers (like those made for oily skin) strip away that essential moisture. With the absence of oil from the cleanser, your skin will then produce more oil in order to replenish what was just washed off. Adopting this skincare tip has made a world of a difference in my skin. I now only wash my face at night with a gentle cleanser made for all skin types and I no longer get that mid-day oily T-zone! Ana also suggested wearing SPF daily (yes, even if you’ll be indoors most of the day!). SPF acts as a barrier to protect skin from air pollution and harmful UV rays. SPF should be a part of your daily skincare routine, not just a part of your beach trip! Visit this post for my favorite daily SPF.
Self-care Tips
Aside from using skincare products, she also gave me the advice of being kind to your skin. By this, she meant to speak positive words to yourself (ergo, your skin). If you believe and say that your skin is beautiful, radiant and youthful then those words will manifest themselves. Yes…the appearance of your skin will ACTUALLY respond to this. Crazy, right? But the opposite can also be true if you are constantly frustrated and speak poorly of your blemishes or irritated skin. That’s why it’s so important to love the skin you’re in and spread positive vibes!
Beauty Advice from My Family
I have also gotten some note-worthy beauty advice from my own family. Both my mother and grandmother have pretty great skin. My mother is in her early 40s and doesn’t have any lines or wrinkles. What’s her secret? Well, she keeps her routine very simple…maybe, almost too simple. She uses a facial cleanser occasionally but mostly uses a bar soap and water. She moisturizes only when she feels that her skin needs the extra love. Similarly, my grandmother simply uses water alone to wash her face.
While I haven’t adopted this minimalistic beauty routine, it does inspire me to simplify my own routine. I hope that this has helped you in your pursuit to maintaining happy and healthy skin! So, I’d love to hear what beauty advice or skincare tips you’ve received or that are currently part of your routine! Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for sharing! I think I have a hard time with washing the face only once is because at night we typically wear a heavy moisturizer at night and an spf one in the morning. The thought of layering moisturizer on top of moisturizer grosses me out! Haha.

Yes! I totally get you. What I meant was use a cleanser once a day and in the morning, rinse your face with water only and use a toner. That way you get rid of the buildup from the products you put on the night before!

Great read! My mom also just uses a bar of soap to wash her face and she has always swore by that. But I use my first aid beauty face cleanser at night when I need to wash my face and it works amazing on my sensitive skin.

It’s interesting right? Maybe I ought to try washing my face with a bar of soap as well. And that cleanser sounds amazing!

Love all of this! I am a holistic esthetician using only natural ingredients and I 100% agree! Less is definitely more. Most of my clients are over cleansing, over exfoliating and doing more damage than good. Glad you found success with your skin!

I believe sunscreen is an important part of my daily facial regimen!

My grandmother always wore a hat or bonnet when working outside in the sun and she never looked her age. Protecting your skin from the sun is super important.
